All of us are constantly in a state of giving and receiving communications. Problems occur when one does not receive or understand the message sent in the communication as it was intended, or when one subconsciously sends a nonverbal message that contradicts the spoken word.
Communication is the most important of all life skills. Developing effective communication skills can help build strong relationships and can lead to success in all aspects of one's life, from the professional life to social gatherings and everything in between. This module will provide students the essential tools for making a positive impression the first time by developing and enhancing the skills they will need to meet the demanding social and professional situations they will face in the college workplace and in social situations.
The main purpose of a resume is to get you in the door for a job interview. On average, employers spend less than 60 seconds reading a resume, so you have to make a good impression quickly. In today's competitive job market, it's more important than ever to make your credentials stand out above the crowd.
Participants will be able to describe the purpose of a professional resume, identify and describe the main components of a professional resume as well as identify and describe the different types of resumes formats. In addition they will have the ability to explain how effective language and keywords can enhance a professional resume and cover letter.
An individual should continuously seek ways to enhance his/her skills, abilities and competencies to enhance his or her performance. Through skill enhancement such as strengthening their responsible decision making, problem-solving, critical thinking and goal setting shills individuals become more capable, competent and confident in their performance and are better able to reach their goals. These skills and competencies are essential elements for achieving success in the educational, athletic and professional arena.
Participants will be able set goals and calculate how much money is needed to reach these goals, track the specific ways they are using their money and develop an understanding of the emotional components of money behavior. In addition, they will gain the ability to identify spending plan tools that will help you manage your financial responsibilities.
A job interview offers a potentially life-altering event that needs careful deliberation. Job interviews provide an opportunity for you and your potential employer to decide how well your ski1Is align with the company’s needs. It is important that you are well prepared to demonstrate you have the character, experience and work ethic to meet their needs.
Participants will be able to describe the types of interviews and typical Interview structures, learn what to do before your interview is scheduled and specific interviewing techniques such as mirroring and body language. In addition, participants will be able to understand the importance of and effectively interpret nonverbal cues from an interview and apply effective nonverbal communication techniques and active listening skills.
Participants will be able to identify ways of describing themselves and their employment and career goals succinctly, recognize and take advantage of a networking opportunity when it arises and Increase awareness of networking, teamworking tools, strategies, tips and resources.
